Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about buying, selling and running auctions on Sell4Me.ie — Ireland's classifieds marketplace. Clothing listings are free.
What is Sell4Me.ie?
Sell4Me.ie is Ireland's friendly online classifieds marketplace where you can buy and sell new and second-hand items locally — cars, electronics, furniture, fashion, baby gear, tools, property and more. List an ad for free in minutes and reach buyers all across Ireland, from Dublin and Cork to Galway, Limerick, Waterford and every county in between.
Is it free to post an ad for clothing on Sell4Me.ie?
Yes — posting an ad in the clothing category on Sell4Me.ie is free. You can upload up to 10 photos, add a detailed description, set a fixed price or start an auction, and your ad goes live to buyers across Ireland straight away. Other categories may have a small listing fee.
How do I sell something online in Ireland?
To sell online in Ireland with Sell4Me.ie, create a free account, click Post Ad, choose a category, add clear photos and an honest description, set your price (or list it as an auction), and publish. Interested buyers will message you directly through the site to arrange collection, delivery or payment.
How do online auctions work on Sell4Me.ie?
Sellers can list an item as an auction with a starting price and an end date. Buyers place bids, and the highest bidder when the auction ends wins. You'll get a notification if you're outbid or if you win, and you can then arrange payment and collection directly with the seller.
Is Sell4Me.ie safe to use?
Sell4Me.ie is built with safety in mind: accounts are verified by email, in-app messaging means you don't need to share your phone number, and payment is arranged directly between buyer and seller. Always meet in a public place, inspect items before paying, and never send money in advance to someone you don't know.
What can I sell on Sell4Me.ie?
You can sell almost anything legal in Ireland — cars and motorbikes, phones and laptops, furniture, white goods, baby and kids items, clothing, garden and DIY tools, sports gear, musical instruments, collectibles, and business stock. Prohibited items such as weapons, counterfeit goods, alcohol, tobacco and live animals are not allowed.
How do I buy something on Sell4Me.ie?
Browse by category or search for what you want, open the ad to see photos and details, then message the seller to ask questions, make an offer or arrange to view the item. On auction listings, place a bid before the auction ends. Most transactions are completed in person with cash or bank transfer.
Does Sell4Me.ie deliver items?
Sell4Me.ie itself doesn't handle delivery — sellers and buyers agree on collection or postage between themselves. Many sellers offer An Post or DPD shipping for smaller items, while larger items like furniture and cars are usually collected locally.
How do I pay or get paid?
Payment is arranged directly between buyer and seller. The most common methods in Ireland are cash on collection and instant bank transfer (Revolut, AIB, Bank of Ireland, etc.). For higher value items, always confirm the funds have cleared before handing the item over.
Why isn't my ad showing in search results?
New ads can take a few minutes to appear in search. Make sure your title includes the item name and key details (brand, model, size), your category is correct, you've added at least one clear photo, and the ad is set to active. Ads with full descriptions and good photos rank higher in Sell4Me.ie's listings.
Can I return an item I bought from a business on Sell4Me.ie?
Yes. When you use Buy Now to purchase from a business (trader) seller, you have a 14-day cooling-off period from the day the item arrives to cancel for any reason, plus a further 14 days to send it back. Tell the seller in writing within the 14 days, return the item unused and in re-saleable condition, and the seller must refund you within 14 days of getting it back. For change-of-mind returns you normally pay the return postage. Full details are on our Returns Policy page.
What if an item from a business seller is faulty or not as described?
Goods sold by a business must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described under the Consumer Rights Act 2022. Report the problem to the seller with photos as soon as you notice it — within 30 days of delivery you can usually ask for a full refund, and after that a repair or replacement first, then a refund if that fails. Where the item is faulty or wrong, the seller pays the return postage and refunds the full amount you paid including original postage.
Do returns apply when I buy from a private seller?
No. The 14-day cooling-off right applies only to purchases from business (trader) accounts. Private, person-to-person sales don't carry a legal right to change your mind. However, Buy Now purchases from personal sellers are still covered by Sell4Me's buyer protection — you can report an item as not received or not as described from My Orders within 60 days of payment and request a refund. The refund covers the item price only; postage is not refundable.
What protection do I have when I use Buy Now with a personal seller?
Personal sellers can use Buy Now only on clothing, books, kids and jewellery. Your payment is held by Stripe until you confirm receipt or until 7 days after the seller marks the item as posted. If the item never arrives, or it is not as described or faulty, you can report it from My Orders within 60 days. Sell4Me will ask the seller to refund you, and may step in if the seller ignores a valid claim. There is no change-of-mind right for personal sales, so only confirm receipt once you are happy with the item.
