• Meet in a busy public place in daylight — many Garda stations offer safe exchange areas. Bring someone with you where you can.
• Always see and test the item before you pay. For vehicles, check the reg, service history and paperwork, and never buy a car you haven't viewed.
• Keep conversations in Sell4Me messages so there is a record. Be wary of anyone pushing you onto WhatsApp, email or a private number straight away.
• Never pay a deposit to hold an item for a seller you haven't met, and never send gift cards, crypto or bank transfers to strangers.
• If a price is far below market value, treat it as a warning sign rather than a bargain.

• Confirm funds have actually cleared in your account before handing over the item — screenshots of a 'payment sent' are easily faked.
• For higher value items, prefer cash on collection or an instant bank transfer you can see landed.
• Don't share bank logins, PPS numbers, card details or one-time codes with a buyer for any reason.
• Arrange collection at a public place where possible. If someone must call to your home, have another adult present.
• Ignore buyers who offer to overpay, use a 'courier they trust', or ask you to pay a shipping or release fee up front.

• Overpayment scam: the 'buyer' sends too much and asks you to refund the difference. The original payment is later reversed.
• Fake courier or escrow: you're sent a convincing email claiming payment is held until you pay a fee. Real couriers never do this.
• Phishing links: a message asks you to 'confirm your details' on a page that looks like Sell4Me, your bank or Revolut. We will never ask for your password.
• Advance-fee rentals or vehicles: the item is 'abroad' or the seller is 'away', so they want a deposit before viewing.
• Counterfeit goods: designer items with no receipt, blurry logo photos or prices far below retail.
• Pressure tactics: 'I have three other buyers, send the deposit now.' Slow down — genuine sellers can wait.

If you think you have been defrauded, contact your bank immediately and report it to An Garda Síochána. Then let us know so we can remove the account.

Every listing has a Report ad button at the bottom of the ad page. Sign in, pick the reason that fits best — such as a prohibited item, counterfeit goods, adult or sexual services, a suspected scam, offensive content or harassment — and add any detail you can. Reports go straight to our moderation team.

• We review reports as quickly as we can, usually within one working day.
• Listings that breach our rules are removed, and repeat or serious breaches result in the account being blocked.
• Reports are confidential — the seller is not told who reported them.
• Illegal content is reported to An Garda Síochána where appropriate.

Ads, photos, business profiles, reviews and messages on Sell4Me.ie are created by our members, not by Sell4Me. By posting content you confirm it is yours to post, accurate, and legal in Ireland and the EU.

• No hate speech, harassment, threats, or content targeting people by race, religion, nationality, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
• No sexual, adult or nudity content, and no advertising of sexual services.
• No violent, graphic or shocking imagery.
• No spam, duplicate listings, keyword stuffing, or ads posted in the wrong category.
• No personal data belonging to someone else, and no photos of people who haven't agreed to appear.
• No links to external websites in private messages — these are automatically blocked to prevent phishing.
• You must be 16 or over to hold an account.

We moderate proactively and on report. We may edit, hide or remove any content, and suspend accounts, where these rules are broken. See our Terms and Privacy Policy for the full detail.

• Weapons, ammunition, knives intended as weapons and imitation firearms.
• Drugs, drug paraphernalia, prescription medicines, vapes and tobacco.
• Alcohol sold by unlicensed sellers.
• Counterfeit, replica or pirated goods.
• Live animals.
• Adult services, adult material and anything sexual in nature.
• Stolen goods, or items with removed or altered serial numbers.
• Personal data, databases, account logins, tickets sold above face value where prohibited, and financial instruments.
• Recalled or unsafe products, and anything else illegal under Irish or EU law.
